Advocates continue to call on Gov. Kathy Hochul to increase funding for safety net hospitals around New York state to provide services and care for patients who lack insurance or rely on Medicaid.

Safety net hospitals predominantly serve communities of color, which experience disproportionate rates of chronic illnesses.

The New York Safety Net Hospital Coalition, the group leading the fight, has made numerous recommendations, such as increasing Medicaid reimbursement rates.

According to the coalition, funding is needed to help make the Medicaid reimbursement system more equitable and will help hospitals keep up with rising costs.

LaRay Brown, chair of the coalition and CEO of One Brooklyn Health System, and David Perlstein, president and CEO of the St. Barnabas Hospital Health System in the Bronx, joined Errol Louis on "Inside City Hall" Thursday to discuss the call for more funding.
