A group of safety net hospitals in New York formed the Coalition to urge the Legislature to advocate for adequate funding and sustainable changes to the underlying payment structure. Doing so will allow safety net hospitals to shift their focus from crisis cash management to long-term investments that improve their facilities and the health and well-being of their patients.
Safety net hospitals need a structure that is reliable and provides an appropriate operating margin to allow them to meet the needs of their communities. To achieve these goals, the Coalition calls on its partners in the Legislature to:
Commit to Structural Payment Reform: Structural payment reform is a long-term solution that would allow safety net hospitals to stabilize, meet the needs of their communities, and reinvest in infrastructure and services, shifting the focus from crisis cash management to strategic investment in value-based initiatives.
